Day 3 Jan 20 9:13pm - Colleen Mills Update

My sister Evelyn just phoned me from ICU (there’s 4 of us siblings: Colleen, Evelyn, Jason & me-Sylvia).

Next 24hrs are of ULTIMATE IMPORTANCE – according to Intensive Care Dr’s & Neurologist.

As of 9:13pm Colleen had a temperature of 102

She’s fed through a feeding tube and vomited it up while no-one was around (they had went for a quick dinner – don’t feel guilty Ev, we all love you, it wasn’t your job) She’s still under sedation.

She needs to stop Jerking/Seizing (average approx every 2-3 seconds) or they won’t be able to wake her up OR even do tests/scans. Pray for a healthy brain & normal body temp.

A lot can happen for the better, in that time, Dr’s say.

On a more positive note, eariler today … they tested her – to see if she could breathe on her own without instruments – the answer is YES! However they put her back in sedation and on the machines because it would be too much stress on her body.

AND they were trying to get a gag reflex earlier - so in one way it's positive.

To help our outlook, and boost our spirits – below is an email exerpt from My cousin who’s wife Sherrill was recently in a coma for 5 days … and has made a full recovery : I am grateful for his honesty and vulnerability - this is his email to me:

[Dear Sylvia]

Sherrill’s was due to high blood pressure which caused her to have seizures. The multiple seizures put her into the coma which lasted five days. … she was very restless and was always trying to pull out the tubes that they had in her yet she was not cognitive for those five days. When the brain swells it seems to shut down all non-essential activities while it tries to heal itself. Even though the Doctor’s were very optimistic that she would recover, they still told us to prepare ourselves should we have to pull the plug. After five days when she come out of the coma she still had slurred speech from the swelling and problems with her vision but it gradually cleared up. I know how helpless it makes you feel, not being able to do anything but wait. But I just kept remembering that we serve a God who holds the blueprint and all the patents to the human body.

What’s impossible with God……nothing!

PS I’ll call my grandmother tonight, she’s a prayer warrior. She’ll get her whole church praying for Colleen.
